9/10

Members present: Anthony Crisostomo, Stephen Guichard, Dustin Kirby, Shoeb Mohammed, Ernesto Falcon, Aparna Agnihotri, Neil Cacali, Navdeep Singh, Kate Casey

Absent: Lexi Howard and Megan Donaghey

Funding Request:

Rebecca Corporale (head of Womens Caucus LIve and Silent Auction) Jackie Hang (solitcitations for beer and wine, President of WC) Friday, September 26- five breweries and 4 wineries pouring; tasting hosted by McGeorge because of regulations; benefit for Sister Nora’s place (Fishes and Loaves)- homeless and/or women in need; anticipate $5000 in donations; every year there is a different recipient of the benefit; tickets go on sale this Monday; all electronic ticketing this year, saving money and expediting the process; student and non-student price but no separate price for members; the event is for all of McGeorge student body; A number of tickets are comped for pourers but most of those comped tickets are in exchange for auction items

Questions: budget analysis on catering costs for $2500 for only the amount asked of SBA, total cost is $9300 instead of $12000 which was the original cost (Neil); Different from past years is the cost of buying wine and increased cost of catering (RC); Approximate cost is $12000 (Ernesto); No, the actual cost will be around $10000 (JH); How much will have to be spent on wine (Nav); Unknown because it depends on the ticket sales (JH/RC); This year Vitello is not actually coming to pour but he will be donating so that will be reflected in the amount of wine needed to buy (JH); How many tickets do you anticipate selling and what is the capacity? (Kate); No cap on ticket sales- at least 350 people can come with the fire requirements etc. (RC); all standing room like last year? (Ernesto); $10000 is what is costs to put it on minus the donation? (Dustin); no, it’s the high cost of production of the event (RC); student price is $30 or 2 for $50, non-student price is $45 or two for $60 (RC/JH)

Discussion of WC funding request: This is the second biggest event of the year and open to the entire student body, going to a good cause (Nav); The projection is low, that says a lot about their planning for the budget and we could grant them more than they need (Nav); Even if the tickets are sold out they will not make cost (Neil); We changed funding policy for charities so we can help them out more (Ernesto); Number of students make tickets sales harder now (Ernesto); The projection is a little over because of math mistakes on gratuity and tax (Neil); If we fully fund the request and if they sell out at student prices, they will barely make cost so I think we should increase the funding request or at least fund them fully and note that they can come back (Shoeb); We should put a cap on that (Neil); According to our policies, the clawback would kick in at half so we wouldn’t necessarily have a problem with an out-of-control budget (Ernesto); We can just wait and talk to them when they have a better idea of their ticket sales (Ernesto); There is always a re-request option (Ernesto); discrepancies should be noted in the approval (Shoeb) Move to fully fund this request at $2500 with a re-request note of reminder (Ernesto); second (Nav)

All in favor aye 8, nay 0 Election Code (Ernesto)

First Year voting:

Dean McGuire agreed to give a full list of names of first year day and evening students; Some changes are the online voting- this would allow people to vote online and hopefully we would have bigger number turnouts; the evening class is really tiny (30 people) so the 10 unique signature requirement is a task for them; the number of days you can vote could be increased because it is monitored by TWEN and if there is a glitch it would allow us to correct it in time for votes to still come in; a 5 day voting period would be great; we could also lift the TWEN restrictions on candidate campaigning.

Discussion:

First proposed change the language after the clause “all other candidates who are write-in candidates….” is going away? (Shoeb); no, only applies to the uniqueness requirement (Ernesto); we need to get the word out (Ernesto); Can we do a test run before the campaign? (Kate); the first year elections are the test run (Ernesto); thinking a video instruction would be nice (Ernesto); if we are getting rid of the uniqueness requirement we should increase the number of required signatures (Dustin); good point, it might be more important for the full elections (Ernesto); the uniqueness requirement has a purpose, so that a few students aren’t the only students involved in the elections (Kate); we could decrease the uniqueness requirement (Nav); making sure that the rules are enforced is something to be aware of (Neil); We could bifurcate the numbers required for large and small classes….percentages (Dustin and Shoeb)

Move to approve election rules(Ernesto), second (Stephen) 6 Ayes, 0 Nays, 2 abstains (Dustin and Kate)

Move to approve uniqueness requirement only for this election (Ernesto), second (Dustin) 8 Ayes, 0 nays, motion passes

Anthony: Letherbys event for first years; $23 per box is the new price; shooting for September 10; Anyone wanting to have that conversation will meet on Wednesday at 5:30

Motion to adjourn (Ernesto); second (Neil) Meeting adjourned.
