Card Swipe Access to Library Now Evenings and All Day Weekends

You will need to swipe your Pacific ID card to open the Library front doors every weekday after 6 pm and all day on weekends.  Please keep your ID card with you at all times.  If you have forgotten your card, you can still enter the library by knocking on the front door. Pacific Legacy Alumni Membership
If you are a graduating senior, and have a relative or family member that is also a Pacific alum you are considered a Pacific Legacy Alumni Member. If you are part of this group, Pacific would like commemorate this so please contact Stevey Clement at (916)793-7141 alumnimcgeorge@pacific.edu before commencement. 

SPRING FINAL EXAM PREPARATIONS

Spring Final Exams begin with early exams on 4/21 & 22, then the Reading Period (4/28-5/1), followed by the Exam Period scheduled 5/2-14. Here are quick reminders to ensure you’re ready for exams:

1. Register with ExamSoft: If you used ExamSoft for Fall finals or Spring assessments/mid-terms, you DO NOT need to re-register. If you used exambooks/bluebooks for Spring Assessments and now want to use ExamSoft, you do need to register here.  

2. Computer Clean-up:  ExamSoft Technical Support Dan Breuer can “clean” your computer in advance of assessments/mid-terms.  Look for him at an Computer Clinic in the Student Center during the Reading Period, or call him at (916) 739-7025, email him at dbreuer@pacific.edu or see him in the Library, to ensure that language translation programs, virus or malware software, wifi Internet connectivity, or lack of hard drive issues don’t affect you during an exam.

3. Download Exams: Look for emails sent out informing you of available exams to download (downloads a blank placeholder – we provide paper copies of all exams on exam day).

4. Mock Exams: Log into ExamSoft and take the available “Mock Exams” – nothing is recorded, but it gives you an opportunity to “see” the blank screen and features (spell check) well before exam day.

5. Exam ID Number:   Know your four-digit exam number before going into an exam.

6. Review Past Exams: Include reviewing previous course exams as part of your study plan – go here.

7. Computer Supplies:  Be sure your computer battery is fully charged, bring the electric cord, and bring/pack an external keyboard or mouse, if you like.

8. Exam Supplies:   Always bring a pen or two with you in case you end up or plan to write in exambooks/bluebooks.  Consider bringing highlighter pens as well. Contact the FSO with any exam/assessment questions at fso@pacific.edu. Good luck on your exams!

2015 Summer Externships in Africa – Spaces Still Available

No more boring externships, thank you very much. Instead, 7-week externships for academic credit are available this summer from June 22 through Aug 7, 2015, in Rwanda or Lesotho at the Rwanda Development Board, Rwanda Law Reform Commission, Judiciary of Lesotho or the Women and Law in South Africa NGO in Lesotho.  Application deadline is April 15, 2015. Get in touch this instant with Professor Jarrod Wong in his office or at jwong@pacific.edu for more information.

Admissions Office Work Study Position
The Admissions Office is looking for a work study student who will be able to assist in a variety of areas: Provide tours to prospective law students, answer phones, do data entry and clerical duties including scanning and uploading documents to files, stuffing envelopes, making folders, assist in processing applications, pack for recruiting events, update information in database, send emails to applicants, participate and assist the admissions office in on-campus (and limited off-campus) recruiting events, interact with prospects and recent admits about the law school and student life, help the Admissions Office prepare for and carry out registration and complete various special projects as assigned by the Director of Admissions or Assistant Dean of Admissions, Diversity Initiatives and Financial Aid. 
We are looking for someone who has good communication and problem solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize workload, strong organization skills, is punctual, enthusiastic and Professional. Students must sign confidentiality agreements.

Sponsored Internship in Vietnam
A top quality Vietnamese law firm in Hanoi, Leadco, will again host a McGeorge student for a summer internship in 2015. Job Opportunity: Library Research Assistant Positions Available

The Law Library is recruiting our next group of Library Research Assistants. This is a great summer work opportunity that is compatible with classes or another job. There is an excellent chance of continued employment in the program through the upcoming fall and spring semesters.

Receive specialized legal research training and mentoring from Pacific McGeorge law librarians while working with multiple professors on projects. You will receive exposure to a variety of research areas and learn skills to take on any research request thrown your way in the future.

This is a summer-fall-spring job opportunity with flexible hours that pays $15/hour. Applicants must be work-study eligible and should have successfully completed GLS I.

Volunteer at Picnic in the Park May 2

The Oak Park Neighborhood Association is looking for students to volunteer the Picnic in the Park event on May 2nd in McClatchy Park. Two-hour volunteer shifts are available setting up, operating, or breaking down the event. Summer Work-Study Position — Rec. Center

Summer Work-Study Student Assistant Position Available in the Registrar’s Office
This summer position supports the functions of the Office of the Registrar, which involves extensive interaction with students and other Registrar’s Office staff. The Work-Study Student Assistant must have the ability to communicate effectively with students and use University computer programs to assist with Registrar’s Office functions. ABA TIPS Law Student Writing Competition

Allow me to remind you of the annual ABA TIPS law student writing competition.  The deadline remains, as it was last year, pushed back to May 1, so as to maximize potential submissions out of students’ spring papers.

National Association of Women Lawyers 2015 Selma Model Smith Law Student Writing Competition
The National Association of Women Lawyers (“NAWL”) is a national organization devoted to promoting the interests and progress of women lawyers and women’s legal rights. NAWL has established the annual Selma Moidel Smith Law Student Writing Competition to encourage and reward original law student writing on issues concerning women and the law. Entrants should submit a paper on an issue concerning women’s rights or the status of women in the law. Essays will be accepted from students enrolled at any law school during the 2014-15 school year. The essays must be the law student author’s own work and must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers written by students for coursework or independent study during the Summer, Fall or Spring semesters are eligible for submission. Notwithstanding the foregoing, students may incorporate professorial feedback as part of a course requirement or supervised writing project.Entries must be received by May 1, 2015. Entries received after the deadline will be considered only at the discretion of NAWL. Entries must include a cover letter providing the title of the essay, school affiliation, email address, phone number, and mailing address of the author. Entries must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word via email to jmartin@stu.edu. The author of the winning essay will receive a cash prize of $500. NAWL will also publish the winning essay in the Women Lawyers Journal.
