Can’t wait to apply your legal knowledge internationally? Through its world-wide network, the Pacific McGeorge International Internship Program helps place students overseas for internships. Past students have interned in Austria, Chile, mainland China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Guatemala (part of the Inter-American Program),The Hague, Hong Kong, Italy, Lesotho, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Palestine, Rwanda, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Uruguay, and Vietnam.

20th Annual Benjamin Frantz First Year Mock Trial Competition (Trial Advocacy Association)

The Ben Frantz First Year Mock Trial Competition is a student run competition that simulates a lower-court trial. First year students will perform direct examinations, cross examinations, opening statements, and closing statements in front of volunteer attorneys and Mock Trial alumni. The competition has become a major launching pad for members of Pacific McGeorge’s nationally recognized Mock Trial Competition Team and provides 1L students with scholarship opportunities. Past winners active on the law school’s current team include James Bradford (3L), Neil Clark (3L), Kitty Tetrault (2L) and this year’s student host Selena Farnesi (3L). Re-Writing the Constitution? The Plan to Call an Article V Convention of States (Federalist Society)

Presented by McGeorge Alum Mark Meckler – Head of Citizens for Self-Governance, which runs the Convention of States Project. The Convention of States Project is a non-profit project that is involved in the promotion of an Article V Convention for proposing Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Three legislatures have already passed the application, ten have filed in the first weeks of 2015, and 35 (total) states are expected to file within the coming month. It is possible that 2015 will see the first call by the states for such a convention in the history of the nation. This has historic Constitutional implications. Legal Intern for Victim of Crimes Resource Center
VCRC provides state-wide information and referrals to victims of crime. VCRC directs victims to local advocacy centers, the compensation program, counseling programs, shelters, and more. VCRC also provides free research for service providers, creates quarterly newsletter articles, and gives free know-your-rights presentations to the community.
VCRC is looking for volunteer legal interns who are interested in criminal law and helping the community. The interns will assist with tabling events, small research assignments, newsletter articles, answering the victim call line, and conducting social media outreach. Interns must be detail-oriented, demonstrate enthusiasm in the subject matter, have good work ethic, creativity, and reliability. Interns are required to commit 1-3 hours per week, or a total of 5 hours per month for a minimum of 1 semester. This is an unpaid internship position. Reading Tutors needed! Volunteer as a Reading Partner today!
Help make a difference in your community! Reading Partners is seeking volunteer tutors Monday through Thursday, between 9 AM and 5 PM. It is a one hour a week commitment. Volunteer hours count toward the Capital Commendation for Public Service. Bret Hart Elementary School is within walking distance of McGeorge. This program is eligible for pay under the federal work study program. The pay is $10 per hour. Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to students who are struggling with reading. 2015 Ed Mendrzyncki Legal Essay Contest
2015 Ed Mendrzycki Essay Contest, sponsored by the Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability of the American Bar Association. The winner of the Mendrzycki Essay Contest will be awarded a cash prize of $5000 as well as an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. in April 2015, which will include free admission to the Committee’s National Legal Malpractice Conference, attendance at the Committee dinner and the prize presentation. The contest is supported by Long & Levit LLP. This year’s contest hypothetical involves liability issues arising from the breach of a law firm’s computer network and the subsequent leaking of a client’s confidential information. The essay contest is accepting entries now. Entries must be received either electronically or postmarked by February 20,2015. Contest rules and information, as well as the contest hypothetical, are posted online.
The contest is open to law students and young lawyers who will have enrolled as members of the ABA no later than February 20,2015. Law students may enroll on the American Bar Association website.

National Association of Women Lawyers 2015 Selma Model Smith Law Student Writing Competition
The National Association of Women Lawyers (“NAWL”) is a national organization devoted to promoting the interests and progress of women lawyers and women’s legal rights. NAWL has established the annual Selma Moidel Smith Law Student Writing Competition to encourage and reward original law student writing on issues concerning women and the law. Entrants should submit a paper on an issue concerning women’s rights or the status of women in the law. Essays will be accepted from students enrolled at any law school during the 2014-15 school year. The essays must be the law student author’s own work and must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers written by students for coursework or independent study during the Summer, Fall or Spring semesters are eligible for submission. Notwithstanding the foregoing, students may incorporate professorial feedback as part of a course requirement or supervised writing project.Entries must be received by May 1, 2015. Entries received after the deadline will be considered only at the discretion of NAWL. Entries must include a cover letter providing the title of the essay, school affiliation, email address, phone number, and mailing address of the author. Entries must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word via email to jmartin@stu.edu. The author of the winning essay will receive a cash prize of $500. NAWL will also publish the winning essay in the Women Lawyers Journal.

Medical Legal Issues Joint Class with UCD Medical School and McGeorge Students
The class will deal with inter professional medical/legal issues through the use of a case study. McGeorge Students will be given materials ahead of time to review and will meet as a group from 2-2:30 to prepare and then join the 3D year medical students. The class will be presented in two parts.
