ANNOUNCEMENTS, EVENTS, AND DEADLINES, FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Student Center Hours Reminder

As a reminder we have the Student Center opened as a study area Monday through Thursday evenings, 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Closed on Fridays after Food Service closes. Open on weekends from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. To keep the Student Center open, a student monitor is assigned to the building by Public Safety, should you need assistance. If a student monitor is not available we are required to close the building.

Recently we have noticed a drop in activity and students utilizing the building. The cost of staffing, keeping the lights, air conditioning and heating on is something we want to ensure is worth the expense. If we continue to have little or no activity, we may elect to close the building and refer students back to the library and classroom H for after hours study spaces. Questions: Brian Sasom, Director of Public Safety bsasom@pacific.edu.

Pacific McGeorge currently has unfurnished one bedroom apartments available. Live just steps away from class. Ask about the studio and 2 bedroom units too. Contact the Housing Office at 916-739-7119 or by email at sachousing@pacific.edu for more information.

Social Media And Its Impact On Discovery In Civil Litigation

Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM PST

Join the California Attorney General’s Office for a free Webinar.

The California Attorney General’s Office is presenting a free webinar for attorneys and law school students on the impact of social media in the litigation process. In recent years social media has crept its way into the litigation spotlight and now requires the attention of attorneys, litigants, jurors and the court in the prosecution of any litigation. Matters  related to social media have resulted in mistrials due to juror misconduct in disseminating case information over Twitter or Facebook, key admissions have been obtained against litigants through posts to public profiles, and posts by litigants and their friends have had significant impacts upon damages claims. Litigators must now learn how to utilize social media in the discovery process, how to address it in jury instructions, and most importantly, how to advise their clients in the effect it has to the success of a litigation. Presenters are Matt Kubicek and Amy Lindsey-Doyle from the Attorney General’s Office.

Space is limited. Reserve your seat now hereAfter registering you will receive a confirmation email with directions to join the Webinar.

Since then, Clark Kelso, one of the organizers of that symposium, has been at the center of the controversy over sentencing reform in his role as the California Correctional Health Care Receiver for the state’s prison health care system. A decade later, California is on the verge of addressing the unsustainable reliance on prison as its solution to crime. It is time to revisit reforming California’s sentencing practice and policy. New Wallet Internship

Velocity Venture Capital has made an investment into a consumer product company called New Wallet.  The product provides an integrated solution for iPhones, wallets, and car keys – and, in effect, reinvents the wallet.  As we prepare for the public launch of the product and a large scale Kickstarter campaign to drive initial product sales this quarter, we are looking for 8 to 10 volunteer interns for a 90 day experience of a life time including:

  • Market research for this new product focused on mobile market segments like college students, fitness fanatics, busy moms, and sales executives
  • Product training and industry analysis of blue tooth low energy, internet of things, wearable technology and other tech trends
  • Social media, marketing and content creation efforts to drive product sales and press coverage
  • Customer development and online support efforts
  • Weekly meetings with company’s co-founders and executive management at Velocity’s Entrepreneurs Campus
Through the end of this month, we will be accepting resumes from students. As part of the process, we will schedule initial screening telephone interviews for the best resumes we receive – then the top candidates will be invited for in-person interviews with the New Wallet executive team.  We expect to select 8 to 10 interns in November – then launch weekly working sessions! Please contact sacstudentaffairs@pacific.edu if you are interested.
