Social Media And Its Impact On Discovery In Civil Litigation

Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM PST

Join the California Attorney General’s Office for a free Webinar on November 6

The California Attorney General’s Office is presenting a free webinar for attorneys and law school students on the impact of social media in the litigation process. In recent years social media has crept its way into the litigation spotlight and now requires the attention of attorneys, litigants, jurors and the court in the prosecution of any litigation.  Matters  related to social media have resulted in mistrials due to juror misconduct in disseminating case information over Twitter or Facebook, key admissions have been obtained against litigants through posts to public profiles, and posts by litigants and their friends have had significant impacts upon damages claims. Litigators must now learn how to utilize social media in the discovery process, how to address it in jury instructions, and most importantly, how to advise their clients in the effect it has to the success of a litigation.

Biographies of Presenters: Matt Kubicek has been an attorney with the Attorney General’s Office for the past six years.  He is currently a Deputy Attorney General III in the Employment and Administrative Mandate Section, where his practice primarily focuses on defending state departments and management personnel in employment-related lawsuits.  Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Kubicek’s career spans five years in private practice in both employment and commercial litigation.

Amy Lindsey-Doyle has been an attorney with the Attorney General’s Office for the past two years. As a Deputy Attorney General III she serves in the Employment and Administrative Mandate Section, where her practice primarily focuses on defending state departments and management personnel in employment-related lawsuits.  Her career spans six years in private practice defending public entities in employment and civil rights.

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Webinar. Space is limited. Reserve your Webinar seat now at: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/737601274.

New Wallet Internship

Velocity Venture Capital has made an investment into a consumer product company called New Wallet.  The product provides an integrated solution for iPhones, wallets, and car keys – and, in effect, reinvents the wallet.  As we prepare for the public launch of the product and a large scale Kickstarter campaign to drive initial product sales this quarter, we are looking for 8 to 10 volunteer interns for a 90 day experience of a life time including:

  • Market research for this new product focused on mobile market segments like college students, fitness fanatics, busy moms, and sales executives
  • Product training and industry analysis of blue tooth low energy, internet of things, wearable technology and other tech trends
  • Social media, marketing and content creation efforts to drive product sales and press coverage
  • Customer development and online support efforts
  • Weekly meetings with company’s co-founders and executive management at Velocity’s Entrepreneurs Campus
Through the end of this month, we will be accepting resumes from students. As part of the process, we will schedule initial screening telephone interviews for the best resumes we receive – then the top candidates will be invited for in-person interviews with the New Wallet executive team.  We expect to select 8 to 10 interns in November – then launch weekly working sessions! Please contact sacstudentaffairs@pacific.edu if you are interested.
