Donation for Victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan
McGeorge APALSA is currently accepting donations for victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan. As most of you know, Haiyan stuck the Philippines last week and caused millions of dollars of damages, and has displaced hundreds of thousands. There are reports that over 2,500 people have died, with hundreds more being reported each day. Haiyan is considered to be one of the largest natural disasters in history, and the people of the Philippines need your help. Many of those who are displaced are in need of food, water, shelter, and other basic supplies.
Your donation will go to Mercy Corps, who has staff members already providing assistance in the Philippines. Mercy Corps is an organization that has been around since 1979 that has local staff working in countries such as Somalia, Syria, Zimbabwe, along with countries that have endured natural disasters. Not only does Mercy Corps provide immediate assistance, but also sticks around to rebuild communities that suffer from natural disasters. McGeorge APALSA supports Mercy Corps and their long-term commitment towards rebuilding efforts worldwide. Your money will go towards providing immediate aid to the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan. No matter how much you donate, any amount will help!

Mock Trial Team Victories
This past weekend two Pacific McGeorge Mock Trial teams achieved remarkable results in their competitions. In the National Civil Trial Competition in Los Angeles, the team of Amanda Iler, Greg Hayes, Andrea Morris and Danny Jensen, coached by alum Keith Hill, advanced to the final round against Cumberland Law School. There they tied (3-3) but came in second because of the method of tie-breaking. Greg Hayes was awarded “Best Advocate” in the final round and the McGeorge team was awarded the “Ethical Advocacy Award” for most ethical team.
At the Buffalo Niagara Competition, our team advanced from 34 to the final round of two. They came in second in a 4-3 vote. Team members Jake Weaver, Daphne Copenhaver, Selena Farnesi and Teal Ericson were coached by alums Leland Washington and Jason Schaff. The team won seven consecutive rounds. Jake Weaver was awarded “Best Advocate” in the competition.
This is our most successful year to date and it’s only the fall. Please congratulate the students if you see them on campus. |

Alison Tucher is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, handling patent cases and a variety of other commercial and intellectual property disputes. She regularly litigates in U.S. courts and international arbitral tribunals, and has led international patent litigation teams. After clerking, Ms. Tucher tried 19 criminal cases to juries in Santa Clara County. Continuing in criminal law at Morrison & Foerster, Ms. Tucher has twice-for clients in unrelated cases-won the freedom of a man wrongfully imprisoned for a murder he did not commit. Ms. Tucher also teaches trade-secret law at Stanford Law School, and serves on the board of governors of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Ms. Tucher is included in Benchmark Litigation’s 2012 and 2013 lists of the “Top 250 Women in Litigation,” and has been named one of its “Local Litigation Stars of California” for 2013. Super Lawyers magazine lists Ms. Tucher among its 2013 Northern California “Super Lawyers.” And for her exoneration work in 2003, Ms. Tucher received the President’s Service Award from the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association and was profiled on CBS News’ The Early Show as an “American Hero.” While a student, Ms. Tucher received Harry S.
