Capitol Speaker Series Presents: “Dark Money – the $11 Million Dollar Problem Defined”
The lecture will address the major U.S. Supreme Court decision on campaign finance, Citizens United, the pending U.S. Supreme Court decision in McCutcheon v. FEC, and the IRS’s handling of 501(c)(4) tax exempt applications. This event is complimentary to students and includes lunch. Looking for a Spring class to add? Trial Advocacy still has spaces available! To add the course: pick out a one-hour lecture (Mondays at either 1:15-3:15 or 5:05-6:05) and a two-hour small section (Tuesdays at 8:20-10:20 or 6:15-8:15; Wednesdays at 1:15-3:15; or Thursdays at 8:20-10:20 or 6:15-8:15) and register yourself via web registration on insidePacific using the CRN numbers listed in the Academic Schedule.

Moot Court Team News
A Pacific McGeorge team advanced to the national finals of the 21st Annual Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition with a strong showing in one of the regionals in October. Eurick O’Bryant and Michelle Pai will represent the school on Nov. 7-10, 2013, in Kansas City, Missouri, after finishing as a semifinalist at the Tang Western Regional, which was held Oct. 11-12, 2013, in San Francisco. Water resources law is a fast-growing and exciting area of legal practice that intersects with numerous fields including business, agriculture, energy generation, the environment, and politics. The multidisciplinary nature of water resources requires that new attorneys be well-versed in law and governance.Our Fast Track LL.M. program allows J.D. students at Pacific McGeorge to apply up to 12 credits of J.D. coursework towards the LL.M. degree in Water Resources Law. Purchase your tickets today – The Middle Eastern South Asian Association invites you to join us on Thursday, November 7th, for an evening of fine Mediterranean cuisine and the opportunity to donate to a great cause! In October 2012, 15-year-old Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai was shot while returning home from school. Malala was targeted because of her views on promoting education for girls. While Malala’s struggle has brought visibility to the lack of education resources for children in underdeveloped countries, 61 million children ages 15 and younger – the majority of whom are girls – aren’t in school today. Without education, leadership skills and subsequent opportunity, the marginalized existence of girls and women will continue. In Fall 2013, The Malala Fund was launched to help amplify the voice of girls fighting for the right to education. With your help, on November 7th MESAA will join the fight by donating 50% of all proceeds to The Malala Fund. Please join us at Darna Restaurant on 925 K St Sacramento, at 7:00pm, to support this great cause, and enjoy great food for only $20. How to Think About Municipal Insolvencies and Chapter 9 (MPLSA)

Property Law Student Association (MPLSA) will be hosting a speakers’ panel regarding the legal issues in the Stockton chapter 9 bankruptcy case. The proposed topic will be the effect of California AB 506 on municipalities’ ability to file for bankruptcy. The new law requires municipalities to engage in a neutral evaluation mediation process prior to filing for bankruptcy. MPLSA is requesting the participation of Judge Christopher Klein, Chief Bankruptcy Judge of the Eastern District of California who is presiding over Stockton’s chapter 9 case, Marc Levinson, an experienced Chapter 9 bankruptcy lawyer representing the City of Stockton, as well as Donna Parkinson, also an experienced Chapter 9 bankruptcy lawyer who is representing the police union. The Board is also requesting Steven Felderstein to serve as moderator. He is an experienced bankruptcy lawyer who represented CalPERS in Vallejo’s chapter 9 case and represents the retirees in Stockton’s chapter 9 case.
