Fête de la Musique

Fête de la Musique! World Music Festival. This weekend, the entire city of Geneva came out to the music festival. There were hundreds of different acts in some of the most beautiful places in Geneva. The best part: it was all FREE!

The city placed pianos all around Geneva in train stations, parks, and streets with a sign saying, “Play me, I’m yours.”

A capella at the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. C. Monteverdi: Madrigali, livre 4, C. Gesualdo: Madrigali, livre 5, A. Scarlatti: Madrigali, G. Rossini: Preghiera, L. Dallapiccola: “Due cori di Michelangelo”

Opera in the courtyard at the Cour de l’Hôtel de Ville. G. B. Pergolesi : “La Serva Padrona”, opéra en un acte

My favorite venue is Victoria Hall. It was the Orchestre Saint-Jean and the Ochestre de la Madeleine.  S. Rachmaninov: Concerto pour piano n° 2 en do mineur op. 18, D. Chostakovitch: Suite de jazz n° 2

They used lanterns to mark the different venues.  These twelve year old girls did a really bad rendition of “YMCA” here.
