  1. Funding Request (Late)

Employment and Labor Law Student Association

Event: Thursday, November 5, 2015

Hosting a mixer for students and practicing attorneys in the area. Come join us for an evening of drinks and appetizers. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and talk with attorneys in the area and to learn more about these exciting fields of law. There will be attorneys from both plaintiff and defense firms. If you have any interest in this field, or want to learn more about it, this is a great opportunity to do just that.

Total Cost: $450

Requesting: $200

Teal: On Thursday we had a very successful mixer for ELLSA, we started our club last year but in that time we have managed to create great connections in the area. 7 people last year got summer jobs through us. So we are creating and maintaining really fantastic opportunities in the community. We had a great spread of both attorneys and students who are interested, it’s an area of law that is untapped by McGeorge. We didn’t have a clinic but the club was able to start one over the summer, so we are having lots of opportunities for student jobs. We are asking for $200 for food and wine

Derek: How much does the event cost?

Teal: Between alcohol and food it’s about 450. It depends on how many bottles of wine are consumed. We are using dues from our account, which we charge $15 and about five members have paid.

Bahar: Can you explain why the request was late?

Teal: I’m new at running the club thing and I am off campus this year. I hadn’t considered this was an option for money until I realized it was. I realize it came in quite late and if that stops funding that’s fine but next semester I will be way more on top of it.

AJ: As a matter of circumstances we do not fund in full on late requests. It has only happened about once in the past year and a half I’ve been involved here.

Derek: How many events do you have planned?

Teal: At least one more mixer and one panel during the day from both employment and labor law to give students a deeper understanding of what employment law is.

AJ: If you are unable to meet the difference without our funding would you just tap that?

Teal: I would fund this because I can’t solicit any funding because I’m in a judicial externship. We have about six people on our board and can make it work one way or another.

Tyler: I’ll make a motion for $137.29

Brittany: Seconds

Unanimous

Bahar: Please just make sure all future funding requests are turned in on time.

Chanel: Motion to Close meeting

Derek: Second

Unanimous
