PLSS Silent Auction request (Valerie)
Trying to save costs on catering, Aoli’s is catering and donating some of the food; the auction will be in the Student Center; the flower arrangements will be done by hand; Sam Shane will be the auctioneer this year; the patio will be transformed with tents and with high tops which will cost $300; a jazz band will be paid $450 at reduced cots; total expenses for the event are $10200; it is expected to make $35000ish; sponsorships are still being sought out; McGeorge is helping with promotional materials
Discussion:
Has SBA helped out with this event in the past (Kate); we don’t know because we weren’t board members last year (Valerie); You are looking for matching funds, right (Ernesto); yes (Valerie);

Environmental Law Pub Quiz (Adam Borchard)
The environmental law society request for the annual pub quiz on 4/3 which is the kick off for Environmental Law week; the quiz is open to all student; from 530 to 7 that evening; inviting alumni; Bon Appetit is serving alcohol; Dos Coyotes will probably cater again and we might have to have that approved by Bon Appetit;
It was a great event last year (Dustin); last year we had a lot of first years and we are trying to have a lot of alumni this year (Adam); this was a bit late, can you tell us why (Ernesto); we are waiting for reimbursements from Rocky Mountain Mineral Foundation conference that we had earlier this year (Adam); we had the same issue last year (Adam)

PAD (Emily)
Evening of Ettiquete event; had it last year to help people get prepared for summer internships; we had a section last year on eating appropriately, what not to do as an intern; how to dress professionally, what exactly is “business casual”; we paired up with CDO on networking last year and we will do it again this year
Discussion: is PAD looking to spend the budget of $1300 on this event, is that correct (Ernesto); its more like $950 because we haven’t had T-shirts come out yet and we want to keep some for next year (Emily); because this is a national club we have to maintain the charter by having at least 6 particular events to meet the international requirements (Emily)

Crim Law Appeal (Ernesto)
Amanda Kelly and Alexander Kahn sent out an email to the heads of clubs to get the professionalism events to fund; the idea was to give $100 per event and to help out the professionalism course to make it like a homework event; Crim Law was offered $150 for their January event so are we okay with offering $150 to that group for the event; the committee offered them $150 for putting together the work they did in November

JBC events (Joey Parkin)
Passing the Par- it will be a 1-hour golf clinic with networking afterwards; we have the time and date set with the golf course and we are requesting $250 for the cost of the pro; for every 10 people we need a pro; we are selling tickets so we can cover one pro but we are requesting for the second; we are looking at 15-20 people; the event is open to everybody and we will start selling tickets right after Spring Break
Discussion: how much will be spend on alcohol (Dustin); none (Joey ); Will you be able to cover a third pro if you need it (Kate); yes with the ticket sales (Joey); How much are the tickets (Ernesto) $15 for members, $20 for non-members (Joey); we already have a large amount of people interested and we did it last year (Joey)

JBC Bar Hop (Joey)
This is a networking event and it’s set for 4/24; we are pairing with Sacramento Barrister’s Club; the funding we are looking for is the limo
Discussion: how many people are you caping this at (Ernesto); the funding will cover the ticket cost and we will get as many limos as we need (Joey); we will do three bars, spend an hour at each bar, and the funding will help with each bar because it will be one free drink at each bar and depending on funding we will decide how many venues we will find (Joey); what’s the estimated range for tickets (Dustin); $35 for members and $40 for non members (Joey); how many people does a limo hold (Chanel); 15 per limo (Joey); how many attorneys (Stephen); the attorneys will meet us at the bars (Joey); is this a new event (Ernesto); this was suggested by the Sac Barrister’s Club (Chanel)); how will the Club help with funding (Ernesto); they will basically be covering their own costs (Joey); even if you sell ten tickets you cover the limo but not the drinks, so you can’t do this without funding (Christina); How much will be spent on the drinks (Shoeb); one-third (Joey)

Move to approve funding for PLSS $2850 (Chanel); second (Anthony)
Is this open to the entire campus (Aparna); yes, it is $25 for the club members and $40 for others (Valerie); you guys can also use the Barrister’s stuff for décor (Aparna)
Aye (unanimous)
Motion approved for funding of $2850

Environmental Law Society motion to approve the event for $250 so that alcoholic drinks are not funded by SBA (Dustin); no second
Motion to fund this event in full (Ernesto); second (Aparna)
Aye (8); Nay (0); Abstention (Stephen)
ELS funded in full

PAD event funding for evening of etiquette; motion to fund at $150 (Anthony); second (Shoeb)
Aye (8), Nay (0), abstain (Chanel)
PAD funded in full

Crim Law Student Practitioner mixer in November; they received the grant from the Career Development Committee and requested funding from us but never received the money from the Committee (Ernesto); what was the original amount (Stephen); Do we move forward from grants to the committee and not apply the alcohol rule retroactively(Ernesto); we handle funding requests so when the committee grants funding it has to go through us (Ernesto); this is such a small portion that we really should give what we already promised (Christina); They asked for $536 and we cut out the cost of alcohol and funded them $350 (Shoeb); so why don’t we just fund this with the $150 that we give at the beginning of the semester (Chanel); start up fund are different, they must be spent on recruitment (Ernesto); they are basically putting on an event and having SBA CDO Committee to spend money on the alcohol because SBA could’t at that time (Stephen); it is an inconsistency on our part (Kate)
Motion to approve $150 to Crim Law Society (Ernesto); second (Stephen)
Aye (7), nay (0), abstain (Dustin and Stephen)

Ernesto and Megan leave, Shoeb takes control of meeting

JBC Passing the Par; $250 is totally reasonable and golfing is one of the best way to network (Anthony)
Motion to fund in full at $250 (Dustin), second (Christina)
Aye(7), Nay (0), Abstain (Chanel)
Funded in full

Bar hop; I have a bit of an issue with this because it’s a Friday night and how much networking is actually happening (Anthony); this could just turn into a rage night (Aparna); it is planned to be at smaller venue so the networking will work better (Chanel); even if they sold the tickets at $50 a person they wouldn’t make the cost of the limo (Christina); what if we asked them to come back with more details and they have already met the 4 weeks (Kate);
Motion to table this to the next meeting (Kate); second (Dustin)
Aye (7), nay (0), abstain (Chanel)

NLG event (Chanel)
Legal Services training is a workshop on how to do a demonstration etc without breaking laws and to maintain courtesies (Chanel); this is funding for the food basically (Shoeb); the last event was a refresher in CrimPro but it would have been more helpful to interact with the public (Stephen); the students get a certification to teach the public about this after attending this event (Chanel); this is a group where there is interest and this is training students for educational purposes (Kate)
Motion to fully fund (Christina), second (Aparna)
Aye (4), Nay (2), Abstain (Chanel)
Motion passes in full

Budget (Shoeb) any discussion; Motion to add the $81.. to the 1L bbq and 3L end of year bbq (Anthony); second (Christina)
Aye (7), nay (0), abstention (Christina)
Motion passes

Move to approve the current state of the budget (Shoeb), second (Christina)
Aye (unanimous)

Crim Law has a clawback issue and we need to pull back what CrimLaw made at the event (Cristina); general rule of clawbacks is that we take back all of the profit up to the amount we funded them (Dustin); we can also take back 50% of what we gave them (Dustin); we can add this to the next meeting with homework to to research (Anthony);
Motion to add this to the next meeting’s agenda on clawbacks (Dustin), second (Anthony)
Aye (unanimous)

Move to adjourn (Dustin), second (Shoeb)
Aye (unanimous)
