Forms for the Registrar

Please stop by the Registrar’s to fill out a few forms.  The first is your Diploma Order Form (due this FRIDAY Feb 10) and the second is a Bar Examination Release form (Due April 2). The forms are attached to this email for your convenience. While the release is not due until April, we suggest doing both now so you do not forget!

Bar Prep Scholarships AVAILABLE NOW!
Are you graduating? Taking the bar this July? Be sure to stop by the BarBri table in the next few weeks and fill out a scholarship form. Scholarships range based on need but many factors are considered.  If you have any questions, email any of your BarBri Reps, including Patrick Blood, Colin Hendricks, Andrea Moon, or Peggy Vargas. Email p_blood@u.pacific.edu for more information.

FIRST YEAR COMPETITIONS

SBA would like to encourage all our 1L colleagues to consider participating in the 1L Trial Competitions.

Ben Franz First-Year Mock Trial Competition: On Tuesday Feb 7, there will be two informational meetings regarding this competition.  Stop by either at 12pm in Classroom H or 5pm in Classroom G to learn more. Packets will be available at 9am on February 10th in the Lecture Hall.

The Annual 1L Moot Court Competition is a soft introduction to appellate advocacy open to all 1L and 1E students.  All participants will receive resume building experience employers want to see from first-year students.  Winners will receive prizes and will be invited to join the moot court team as a second-year student.

SBA’S 9TH ANNUAL BARRISTER’S BALL

MCGEORGE SBA’S 9TH ANNUAL BARRISTER’S BALL IS HERE!!

Barrister’s Ball (known by some as the ‘law school prom’) is one of the largest and most memorable campus events of the year. All around the United States (as well as the UK, Australia and Canada), Student Bar Associations throw a night to remember open to the student body.

This year the event’s theme is Old Hollywood.  Tickets will be sold starting in February in the Student Center from 12-1pm & 5-6pm. Please see the days below:

Monday (02/06/12) – Wednesday (02/08/12): 4E/3D/3E only
Thursday (02/09/12) – Friday (2/17/12): Open to All

Tickets are $65 each and will  NOT be available at the door. The number of tickets is limited; therefore we recommend that you buy your tickets early.  Attire is formal (gentlemen, tux is not required for this event).  Direct any questions, comments or concerns to Olena Likhachova ato_likhachova@u.pacific.edu or any of your SBA Reps.

VISIT BY JUDGE PICASSO FROM ARGENTINA

Judge Sebastián Picasso is a judge of the Judge of the Argentinian National Civil Court of Appeals who teaches torts, contracts and consumers law at the University of Buenos Aires Law School. A former practicing attorney, he has been widely published and is a frequent speaker at international forums. Judge Picasso will serve as a distinguished visiting professor of law at Pacific McGeorge from Feb. 6 to Feb. 16, teaching and co-teaching Torts and Legal Spanish classes. On THIS FRIDAY, February 10 at 5pm, Judge Picasso will be present for a short movie screening and panel discussion on the film Hot Coffee.  The event will be in Classroom A; light appetizers and wine will be served.  RSVP on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/events/358471094180358/.

On Feb. 14, he will speak on “Comparative Torts: The Argentine Perspective,” at an International Jurist Series event open to the public as part of Professor Amy Landers’ Torts course. He will also speak at a McGeorge International Law Society (MILS) student-sponsored event on Feb. 16th on Comparative Legal Education.

SBA COMMUNITY SERVICE

The SBA Community Service Committee is currently seeking volunteers for a number of our spring events.  We have a Habitat for Humanity project (Feb. 11), Legal Services of Northern California’s Annual Race for Justice, Valentine Run (Feb. 11) and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. If you have any questions or want to join our mailing list, please contact us at mcgeorgecommunityservice@gmail.com. Your help makes a difference and we thank you so much for your consideration.

About Patrick

Patrick has served on the Student Bar Association all three years during his time at Pacific McGeorge. He is the 2011-2012 the Representative at Large. He is an alumni now.
