About the Auction

The PLSS Live & Silent Auction is the Public Legal Services Society’s annual fundraiser for its Summer Grant Program. Each year, recipients of the PLSS Grant engage in meaningful legal work to protect and further the rights of children, the disabled, the indigent, and the elderly. Through the efforts of its grant recipients, PLSS has helped increase legal services rendered to underserved populations in our community and abroad for the last 20 years.

The PLSS Live & Silent Auction is a long-standing McGeorge tradition that brings together students, alumni and the greater Sacramento community for a noble cause. The first Auction was held in 1992 by PLSS benefactor and former Board member, Kim Delfino, in an attempt to raise money for fellow classmates engaging in unpaid public interest legal work. Upon becoming Dean in 2002, Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker also became a passionate advocate of PLSS and worked tirelessly to increase the organization’s grant allocations. During Dean Parker’s 10-year tenure, proceeds raised at the Annual Live & Silent Auction nearly doubled each year.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of alumni and community members like you, PLSS raised over $200,000 at the 20th Annual Live & Silent Auction and Dean Parker Tribute Dinner! In May of 2012, PLSS proudly announced that it would provide $83,000 in stipends to thirty-two McGeorge students interning in the public law and policy sector. Last summer’s grant recipients volunteered at offices such as the Sacramento County District Attorney, the Solano County Public Defender, the California Attorney General’s Office, and Sacramento Advocates.

In addition, to ensure the future financial success and security of the PLSS Summer Grant Program, the 2012-2013 PLSS Board created the Dean Elizabeth Parker Endowment for Public Interest Law in the amount of $150,000. It is our hope that the additional funding generated by the Dean Parker Endowment will help provide the financial aid necessary to enable McGeorge students to engage in public service in our community and abroad for many generations to come.

PLSS is eternally grateful for the contributions of Ms. Delfino and Dean Parker, as well as the generous donations made by the organization’s long-time sponsor, Mike Belote.  The PLSS Summer Grant Program would not be possible without the philanthropy of our benefactors and the support of alumni like you.
