Also, keep in mind- although a disproportionate number of jobs/internships in the field of public law and policy are poorly paid or unpaid, there are MANY fellowship and grant programs available to students and recent graduates pursuing these positions. Public Interest-Specific Job Sites

  • OneJustice – OneJustice is the critical link between life-saving affordable legal services and people in need. With resources stretched thin statewide, OneJustice provide critical skills, training, resources and support to 100+ nonprofit legal organizations, law schools, law firms and businesses and thousands of lawyers and law students to help them stretch capacity to assist the up to 8 million at-risk low-income people to resolve pressing legal problems. Our programs strengthen the emergency safety net to meet an ever-growing need in our community.
  • Equal Justice Works – The mission of Equal Justice Works is to create a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers committed to equal justice. Equal Justice Works provides a continuum of programs that begin with incoming law school students and extend into later careers in the profession. Equal Justice Works also has a post-graduate fellowship program that provides funding for two years to 40-50 qualified and passionate lawyers who have developed new and innovative legal projects that can impact lives and serve communities in desperate need of legal assistance. Fellows receive a competitive salary, generous loan repayment assistance, connections to their prominent sponsors, participation in trainings, and additional support during their two-year tenure.
  • Capital Morning Report – Capital Morning Report’s job classifieds section is THE place to look if you’re interested in a career in the Capitol or the 3rd house.
  • U.S. Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) – The U.S. Public Interest Research Groups are an alliance of state-based, citizen-funded organizations that advocate for the public interest. The state PIRGs’ mission is to deliver persistent, result-oriented activism that protects the environment, encourages a fair marketplace for consumers and fosters responsive, democratic government.
  • PSJD – PSJD (formerly PSLawNet) is a unique online clearinghouse for law students and lawyers to connect with public interest job listings and career-building resources.  As a collaborative project among over 200 American and Canadian law schools, PSJD is a free resource for law students and alumni of our subscriber schools to search among thousands of public interest job opportunities and employer profiles.  Employer organizations may also post job opportunities for free.  In addition to its database, PSJD offers an online library of educational and career-building resources for those interested in pursuing a career in public service.  These resources are publicly available to all website visitors.
  • CALegalAdvocates – CA Legal Advocates is an on-line community for all those working to ensure access to justice for low-income Californians.
  • The Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG) – PILPG is a global pro bono law firm that provides legal assistance to states and governments with the negotiation and implementation of peace agreements, the drafting of post-conflict constitutions, and the creation and operation of war crimes tribunals. PILPG is a 2005 Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
