131,000 Challenge

The 131,000 Challenge represents the Military Law Society’s implementation of the Department of Veteran Affairs call for community involvement in ending Veteran Homelessness. Inspired by the Department’s message and sobered by a 2010 statistic that 131,000 Veterans were homeless, McGeorge student and former Army Ranger Philip A. Williams challenged the McGeorge Community to perform one push-up or sit-up for each homeless Veteran. In 2011, the McGeorge Community embarked on its first Challenge with great success, raising $4,160.30 by performing 41,630 repetitions. On November 8, 2012, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the McGeorge School of Law quad, the Military Law Society will again challenge the McGeorge Community to draw a line in the sand and affirmatively state “No More” by taking part in the second annual 131,000 Challenge.

WHEN

WHY
The 131,000 Challenge represents a line drawn in the sand with which we, as grateful citizens, affirmatively state “No More.” Our goals are: 1) to raise awareness about the problem of veteran homelessness and 2) to raise money for the United States Mission – a Sacramento 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the homeless with transitional housing.

HOW
Free Participation: Come to the quad on November 8, 2012 and do as many repetitions as you can.

Donations: Three options to donate: 1) a one time direct donation; 2) pledge a certain amount of money per repetition performed by a specific McGeorge student or faculty member; OR 3) pledge a certain amount of money for every repetition performed by the entire McGeorge Community.

If you are interested in donating to this effort, please contact Nick Horton at n_horton@u.pacific.edu. Or you can make a one time direct donation by using the “DONATE HERE” link at the top of the page. All profits go towards the United States Mission of Sacramento.
