VITA INFORMATION SESSION 11/17 @ 3pm in E

Everyone,

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) information session tomorrow from 3-4pm in Classroom E.
Each spring, the McGeorge Business & Tax Law Society participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This program assists low income taxpayers and McGeorge students in preparing their income tax returns.
VITA provides an opportunity for McGeorge Law Students to gain hands-on experience preparing income tax returns. Volunteers in the program perform a variety of duties; some prepare federal and state income tax returns, while others assist clients with intake questions. It is also an activity you can add to your resume!!
VITA stresses critical thinking, analysis, and the development of excellent communication skills. Volunteers also develop interviewing skills on confidential matters, and learn to investigate with a human relations dimension, through this nationally recognized program.
VITA Volunteer Benefits:
· Receive free basic training from the IRS.
· Receive free training on using TaxWise tax software.
· Become a certified VITA preparer for the IRS.
· Gain Invaluable real-world experience.
· Receive a Certification of Appreciation from the IRS upon successful completion of the program.

How Do I Become a Volunteer?
Becoming a VITA volunteer is easy and rewarding. In addition to the enhancement to your resume, you will meet other people who, like you, want to lend a hand at tax time. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing a service to those who may need it the most.
If you are unable to attend the information session tomorrow and still want to volunteer, that’s okay! All you need to do is obtain the tax materials from one of our officers and then take the IRS exam online. I recommend taking the exam over winter break.
